Blood tests These are available each morning, by appointment with our phlebotomist at the practice. Alternatively you can attend the Pathology Department at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital between 9 and 4 on a week day without appointment. Test Results Please telephone (522622) for the results of blood test and urine tests, swabs smears and x rays between 2pm and 6pm. Please remember that some tests take several days to be returned Cervical smears We operate an automatic recall system and all eligible women should receive a reminder when they are due for a smear. If you are concerned about having a smear please talk to your doctor. Minor Surgery Various minor operations may be undertaken within the surgery. This will first need to be discussed with your GP and an appointment for the procedure will usually be offered within a week or two. Contraception All GPs in the practice can offer help with contraception including prescribing the pill and also fitting coils (IUDs) Antenatal This clinic is run by the midwives. If you become pregnant, you should first consult a GP, who will then arrange for you to be given a booking appointment with the midwife. You will be seen regularly throughout your pregnancy at either the surgery or the hospital. Child health and Immunisations All new babies are invited for regular check ups and offered the recommended schedule of immunisations by appointment. An open access clinic for queries about your baby's health is available on Tuesdays 12.30 - 2.15pm at the Epiphany Church Hall (corner of Redbreast Rd and Wimborne Rd), staffed by the Health Visitors Travel Immunisations Please complete a travel form (available from reception) if you are querying about immmunisations and malaria treatment for travel abroad. You will be offered an appointment to provide the recommended regimes. In some cases these items are not available under the NHS and you will be advised of the charges. Stopping Smoking Please ask if you would like help with giving up. We have trained nurses who can advise and support you to quit and various preparations including nicotine replacement are now available on prescription NHS Direct NHS Direct offers free expert health information and advice 24 hours a day on 0845 4647 or at their website www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk which also has an enquiry service. For deaf people and those hard of hearing, a telephone service is available on 0845 606 4647. Disabled Access There is suitable access for disabled persons and a reserved parking place. If you require assistance, please ring the bell or ask at reception. There is a washroom for disabled persons in the surgery; please ask at reception for details. Back to Top |
